Terms of Service

1. Purpose

ParisGuessr is a daily photo-location game. Users try to identify the location of a Paris photo by placing a marker on a map.

The website is provided for entertainment, demonstration, and educational purposes, including as part of an RNCP “Concepteur Développeur d’Applications” project.

2. Access to the website

The publisher may modify, suspend, or discontinue access to the website at any time, especially for maintenance, bug fixing, hosting changes, development work, or security reasons.

Access to ParisGuessr depends on third-party technical providers, including Railway, Cloudflare, Cloudinary, and Resend.

3. Accounts

Users may create an account to participate with a persistent identity and appear on leaderboards.

Users must provide accurate account information and keep their login credentials confidential. Users are responsible for activity associated with their account.

The publisher may suspend or delete accounts used for abuse, cheating, spam, impersonation, unauthorized access attempts, or unlawful activity.

4. Email verification and password reset

Users may be required to verify their email address before accessing account features. Password reset links may be sent by email if requested by the user.

Users are responsible for protecting access to their email account.

5. Gameplay and leaderboard

Scores are calculated based on the distance between the guessed location and the actual photo location.

The leaderboard is provided for fun. Scores may be corrected, deleted, hidden, or reset in case of bugs, cheating, suspicious activity, abuse, or technical error.

The publisher does not guarantee that rankings, statistics, scores, or game history will be permanently available.

6. Photo submissions

Users may submit photos for possible inclusion in the game.

By submitting a photo, the user confirms that:

• they own the photo or have permission to submit it;
• the photo does not infringe third-party rights;
• the photo is appropriate for a public game;
• the photo does not expose private, sensitive, or unlawful information;
• the location information provided is reasonably accurate;
• ParisGuessr may store, moderate, display, and use the photo as part of the game.

7. Photo attribution

When submitting a photo, users may provide a photographer name and optional social or attribution link.

The publisher may display this attribution with the photo, but does not guarantee that attribution will always be displayed in every context.

8. Moderation

Submitted photos are subject to moderation. The publisher may approve, reject, edit, hide, replace, or delete submitted photos and related information.

Moderation decisions may be made to protect the quality, safety, legality, and fairness of the game.

9. Forbidden use

Users must not:

• attempt to access accounts, admin areas, or data without authorization;
• attempt SQL injection, cross-site scripting, command injection, or other attacks;
• try to disrupt, overload, scrape, reverse engineer, or damage the website;
• submit malicious files, scripts, or misleading content;
• submit unlawful, hateful, offensive, privacy-invasive, or copyrighted content without permission;
• use bots, automation, or manipulation to cheat or distort scores;
• impersonate another person or misrepresent photo ownership.

10. Intellectual property

The ParisGuessr interface, code, design, texts, and original materials are protected unless otherwise stated.

Submitted photos remain the property of their authors. By submitting a photo, the user grants ParisGuessr permission to host, moderate, display, and use it for the operation of the game.

11. Availability and limitation of liability

ParisGuessr is provided “as is”. The publisher makes reasonable efforts to maintain the website, but does not guarantee uninterrupted access, absence of errors, absence of data loss, or permanent availability.

The publisher is not responsible for failures caused by hosting providers, email providers, image storage providers, DNS providers, user devices, internet access, or third-party services.
